Why there are so many “Yono” apps
Three forces collide on this name:
- The rummy brand. “Yono Rummy” as a gaming brand (~2.74M monthly searches) spawned imitators with near-identical names, icons and spellings.
- Version sprawl. Queries for “old version”, “latest version”, “for Android” and store-mirror domains (Softonic, Uptodown-style) show users hunting downloads outside official stores — exactly where malware lives.
- The SBI collision. YONO is also the State Bank of India's official banking app. Scammers blend both: banking-themed phishing around a gaming name, or gaming “support” asking for banking OTPs. SBI's YONO and any rummy brand share nothing but syllables.

Verify-before-install checklist
- Official stores only. Any Yono-named app worth having is on the official store under a verifiable developer — side-loaded APKs get no such check.
- Read the developer name, not the icon. Clones copy icons and screenshots; publisher identity is harder to fake.
- Refuse wild permissions. A card game never needs SMS access or accessibility control.
- Search “name + scam/fraud” before installing — victims post warnings within days.
- Never pay to unlock. No legitimate app charges activation fees to personal accounts.
